Happy 4th and Getting Crafty

Haven't you always wondered what to do with those empty #10 food storage cans? If you're LDS you know exactly what I'm talking about. They are good for a number of crafty ideas, probably one for each holiday; luminaries for Halloween or Christmas for example. So for the 4th, I came across the idea HERE. She uses empty formula cans but the #10 size cans work just as well.

I spray painted the cans blue and the twins "helped" by making sure I covered the whole can.

Then I used a stencil to draw and cut out stars on some peel-and-stick paper. The twins took turns sticking the stars to the cans. I used a large size star to make it easier for them to do this on their own.

I cut red and white ribbon into strips about a foot and a half long. Taking a low temperature glue gun, I put the glue on the inside rim of the can and Sarah and Matthew took turns pressing the ribbon into place. I also put some craft glue on the end of each ribbon to keep them from fraying.

Then, using a screwdriver and hammer, I made two holes in the top and ran some clothesline through them to make a hanger.

Viola! A cute patriotic decoration for the walkway up to the front door.

Now, I just need to use up enough cans of sugar and pinto beans for the next project.
